Kim Foxx is running for re-election as Cook County State’s Attorney because she believes in a fair and equitable criminal justice system. As a young girl she grew up in Cabrini Green. She’s always known that our system needs to change, and she has spent her career fighting for children and families like the ones she grew up with.
Criminal Justice Reform
We have seen the impact of an unfair criminal justice system. She's running to reform the system and bring equity and fairness to a system that, for too long, has marginalized low income and communities of color like the one Kim grew up in. She is working to make Cook County a model of criminal justice reform.
Taking on Violent Crime
Our system has treated violent criminals the same way we treated low-level offenders—this is wrong. We’ve been prosecuting things like marijuana offenses, creating a scarlet letter (and a criminal record) for too many to wear. Over the last three years, we’ve seen violent crime go down as well as incarceration rates - and our communities are safer because of it.
Righting the Wrongs of the War on Drugs
Kim has owned the role that prosecutors played in the War on Drugs, and is working to right those wrongs, especially on the heels of marijuana legalization in Illinois. She is proud to have started this by expunging the records of over a thousand low-level marijuana offenders. Now, we must continue this critical work together.
Standing up to President Donald Trump and the FOP
Donald Trump and the FOP have used our community as a punching bag. They have tried to divide our communities and vilify my record by spreading false narratives. Kim will continue to stand up to Donald Trump and protect our communities against his divisive rhetoric.
