 Meet Kim Foxx

The 5.2 million residents of Cook County deserve a better system, one that is driven not by a “win at any cost” mentality, but by a persistent quest for justice, in whatever form that takes in a particular case. This quest for justice is how we will earn the community’s trust and build bridges to improve public safety. And while it will take long, hard work, I believe that a reformed criminal justice system that is more responsive to the people and more responsible in the pursuit of justice is a win-win for us all.

My passion for public service is deeply personal. I spent my early childhood growing up in Chicago's Cabrini Green housing projects. I was raised by my young mother and grandmother, and I saw, firsthand, the impact of crime, violence, and poverty in our communities. This inspired me to pursue a career in public service.

My upbringing taught me many things—one is to always fight for what you believe in. I believe in Cook County, I believe in a fair and equitable criminal justice system, and I believe that the safety of our communities is paramount over everything. Here’s a little about me:

My husband Kelley and I have been married almost 20 years. We’re the proud parents to four teenage girls.

I’ve been fighting for Cook County my entire career. I attended school at Southern Illinois University and SIU School of Law. As Chief of Staff for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, I led the county’s criminal justice reform agenda to address racial disparities in the criminal and juvenile justice systems. I’m also a veteran prosecutor—for 12 years I served as Assistant State’s Attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

I’m passionate about advocating for our communities and helping to move the next generation of public servants forward. Currently, I’m a board member for Adler University and Free Spirit Media. Previously, I served as board chair of Planned Parenthood of Illinois and president of the National Black Prosecutors Association - Chicago Chapter.
